About Us

The Summer Reading Club is a big deal with nearly 30,000 kids and teens joining in. Why don’t you register to be a part of it, too?  It’s a county-wide program sponsored by the Allegheny County Library Association and your local library.  All 45 public libraries in our county spend the summer months encouraging children from K – 5th grade to read whatever they like – be it graphic novels, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Junie B. Jones, Wuthering Heights or books about lizards!  The librarians offer all kinds of fun incentives to keep kids reading all summer long as well as programs to keep them engaged, occupied and having a blast!   And kids of all ages can join in – from tots to teens and even adults!

RC (as in Reading Creature) is our new summer reading mascot!  He’s here to help parents and kids rediscover all that libraries have to offer this summer!  He has a Facebook page, a Twitter Feed, a Flickr page and you’ll be seeing him around the county and in a library near you.

If you’d like to get involved, visit your local library (find one close to you here.)

We hope RC inspires you and your kids to Read On this summer and lose yourself in interesting information and powerful stories!
